A preview of the seasonal measures for the 2018-19 BMSB risk season has been released by the Department of Agriculture and Water Resources (DAWR).

The measures for the 2018-19 BMSB risk season will apply to certain goods shipped from an expanded list of target risk countries which includes USA, Italy, Germany, France, Russia, Greece, Hungary, Romania, Georgia and Japan (heightened vessel surveillance only).

Treatment options will include sulfuryl fluoride fumigation, methyl bromide fumigation and heat treatment. Specific treatment rates and minimum standards have not yet been advised and an approved list of offshore treatment providers is being considered from Italy and USA.

There will be a list of target high risk goods, target risk goods and exempt goods. Target high risk goods will require mandatory offshore treatment and if they arrive untreated, they may be directed for export or destruction. Selected harmonised tariff codes for these commodity groups have not yet been advised.

Details of all measures are currently being finalised by DAWR. The final measures will be announced in late July once all industry feedback has been considered and administrative processes are completed. We will provide further updates as new information becomes available.
