As of last week, all parties in the China sea freight supply chain, with the exception of those operating in Hubei Province, are now working as usual. Goods manufacturing has commenced, which VGL can validate by way of our sea cargo loadings this week which will reach 90% of our weekly loadings for this time of year. VGL expects that the cargo loadings in the 4th week of March and all of April to reach the levels of the peak season period of October to December. VGL therefore strongly recommends that Clients instruct their Chinese suppliers to book at least 3 weeks in advance during March and April.
In regards to airfreight, there will remain capacity constraints due to the continued restrictions on passenger flights. We expect this to continue for the next couple of weeks.
As you will be aware, the northern region of Italy has been impacted by the Coronavirus. However, other than some container equipment shortages (reefers), the Italian supply chain remains operational. Currently, all of VGL’s Italian and European offices are open and working as normal.
