Sydney Port-Industrial Action
The position as of 2 October 2020 with the industrial action is;
Patricks Sydney Terminal – The MUA has withdrawn all industrial action at Patricks Sydney terminal (and all other Patrick terminals) for the time being. The MUA & Patrick are back before The Fair Work Commission on 26 October 2020, which may see changes regarding the MUA’s position with their withdrawal of the industrial action.
DP World Sydney Terminal – DP World has now reached an “in-principal” agreement with the MUA for the outstanding Part B of the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement. Therefore, at this stage, there is no industrial action at this terminal.
Hutchinson Container Terminal – Hutchinson continues to experience industrial action at its terminal. As this terminal is the smallest in Sydney the industrial action is only having a minor impact on Sydney cargo availability. We are advised by Patrick & DP World that, provided there is no further industrial action at their terminals, it will take up to 2 months for the vessel servicing to return to normal.
Sydney Port Congestion Surcharges
The surcharges in respect of the vessel disruption in the Sydney Port caused by the industrial action of the MUA are described differently by the Shipping Lines, and include the following descriptions;
➢ Sydney Port Congestion Surcharge.
➢ Peak Season Surcharge (MSC); and
➢ Transport Additional Surcharge
The shipping lines have advised that due to the congestion likely taking up to 8 weeks to clear, they intend to continue these surcharges for at least the next 6 weeks.
